A Clarendon taxi operator and a mechanic allegedly held with $2.8 million worth of cocaine are to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.

Forty-four-year-old taxi driver Donavan Cascoe of Scott District, Milk River, Clarendon and 46-year-old mechanic Kirk Robinson are charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine and taking steps to export cocaine.

The police say the charges were laid after they were interviewed in the presence of their lawyers.

The accused were held along the Causeway in the vicinity of the Portmore Toll Plaza in St Catherine on Sunday.

The police say a team was conducting an anti-narcotics operation along the road when a White Toyota Axio motor car with two men aboard was signalled to stop.

The driver complied and the vehicle was searched and the police say a total of 2.3 kilograms of cocaine were found hidden in bags.

The men were arrested and the vehicle seized.
