INDECOM says 221 complaints received against police January to March

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says it received 221 complaints from members of the public against the security forces over the first three months of the year.

Assault by members of the security forces was the leading category with 73 such cases.

Next was discharge of firearm with 56 complaints, then 34 cases of fatal shooting, 13 complaints about shooting injuries and eight cases of destruction of property.

All parishes had complaints with Kingston and St Andrew recording 66 complaints, 35 in St Catherine and 19 in St James.

They rounded out the top three parishes.

INDECOM says it’s Investigation Teams and Forensic Unit responded to 106 incidence scenes for the period.

It says most of the scenes were predominantly related to discharge of firearms, fatal shooting and shooting injuries.

There was one incident of death in custody.
