800 pounds of ganja, packaging equipment and bike seized in Planters District
The police seized over 800 pounds of ganja valued about $3.5 million and several pieces of equipment used to package and transport the drug in Planters District, St Catherine this morning.
A release from the police's Corporate Communication Unit, this afternoon, said the drug and equipment were discovered by a combined police team between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. in a secluded area in the community.
In addition to the ganja, the police team seized: one metal compressor for compressing ganja, two scales, one hydraulic jack, one Trail motorcycle and 80 pounds of ganja seeds.
The police believe the operation is part of the guns-for-drugs trade between Haiti and Jamaica. It is suspected that the Trail bike originates in Haiti and was brought to Jamaica by boat.
No one was arrested in connection with the drug operation.
Investigations are continuing.
