Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett has indicated that he had received a draft of the long-awaited Tourism Workers Pension Bill.

Bartlett said the document is being reviewed by a high-level technical team.

The Bill will facilitate the creation of the much-needed pension scheme to benefit all tourism workers, including Red Cap Porters, craft vendors, ground transportation operators and hotel workers.

The tourism minister, in his prepared presentation in the Sectoral Debate in Parliament yesterday, informed that the requisite steps are being taken to amend the Tourism Enhancement Fund Act to allow for the disbursement of one billion dollars facilitating the setting up of the pension scheme.

Bartlett, who closed the debate, indicated that the pension fund will attract the same kind of fiscal arrangement as other established pension funds and that contributions will be tax-free.
