Residents of Mount Salem, St James, this morning mounted roadblocks as they protested what they said was the cold blooded killing of a man from the community by the police.

The man has been identified as Rupert Johnson.

Winsome Brown, who said she was the aunt of the deceased man, said the police arrived this morning and began shooting without explanation.

The residents blocked the intersection of the Mount Salem main road and Crawford Street with various items, which they also set on fire.

Fire personnel had to be called to put out the blaze.

The residents also slashed the tyres of the service vehicles used by police on the scene.

Police are now maintaining a presence in the community.
