Farewell Captain Burrell - Hundreds mourn JFF President at National Arena
Hundreds of mourners headed by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen and Lady Allen, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Leader of the Opposition Dr Peter Phillips and other members of government and the sporting fraternity poured into the National Arena earlier today to pay their last respects to the late president of the Jamaica Football Federation Captain Horace Burrell.
The service started promptly at 10 a.m. with musical tributes from Carlene Davis, Ken Boothe, Ernie Smith and Richie Stephens. The body of the man known as the 'Captain' was placed at the entrance of the Arena for open viewing for a hour before being relocated to the stage area at the front of the audience.
There were many tributes including from former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, Minister of Sports Olivia Grange, former technical director of the Jamaica National football team Rene Simoes, CONCACAF president, Victor Montagliani and employees of The Captain's Bakery. Interment took place at Up Park Camp.
