A policeman attached to Crime Stop has been taken into custody after he opened fire during an incident which left the daughter of a senior cop nursing gunshot wounds.

The incident reportedly took place along the Bernard Lodge main road in St Catherine early yesterday morning as the teen travelled in a taxi.

Information reaching our news centre is that, while driving along the thoroughfare, the taxi driver swerved from a pothole and hit the policeman, who was walking along the road. It is reported that the driver stopped the vehicle to assist the policeman, who pulled his weapon and opened fire.

The bullet reportedly hit the car and 19-year-old Chantal Allen, who was a passenger in the taxi, was later found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to her right leg. She was taken to the Andrew's Memorial Hospital in St Andrew for treatment.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate of Constabulary have been notified of the incident and the Portmore Police are investigating.
