Portland Police launch special initiative to keep out criminals fleeing special zones
The Portland Police have launched a special initiative to keep criminals out of the peaceful parish.
Acting Commanding Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, O’Neil Thompson, says with the enactment of the zones of special operation legislation criminals in crime hotspots will be looking to hideout in other parishes, including Portland.
DSP Thompson says the Portland Protect initiative will see the police increasing operational activities across the parish.
He says a hotline has also been set up by the police for residents to report suspicious persons or activities in their communities.
The head of the Portland Police says cops will be robust in their enforcement against criminal activities.
DSP Thompson points out that in recent weeks the police arrested several persons wanted for crimes in other parishes.
Portland has record four murders since the start of the year, the same as the corresponding period last year.
