Gunman strikes beside Parliament building

Published:Wednesday | July 26, 2017 | 12:00 AM

Police investigators are now at a scene close to the nation’s House of Parliament where one man was shot and injured just after eight this morning.

Reports are that the man was standing near the corner of Beeston and Duke streets in downtown Kingston when a gunman approached and opened fire hitting him before escaping on foot.

The injured man has been taken to hospital while the police process the scene.

This came hours after several shots were fired in the near-by Kingston Gardens late last night into this morning.

A joint police/military operation this morning led to the arrest of several persons a short while ago.

Some parliamentarians are scheduled to meet at Gordon House 10 this morning for a sitting of the Public Administration & Appropriation Committee.
