Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton has described as troubling a video and images circulating on Facebook of construction work being done at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital's paediatric ward while being occupied by children.

Tufton noted that under no circumstance should the children in the hospital's care have been subjected to such conditions.

Following a directive from the health minister on Saturday, the regional director of the Western Regional Health Authority, Dr Ken-Garfield Douglas, suspended the work at once and the area was cleaned.

The matter is being investigated and Tufton is awaiting a report.

"What has occurred on the ward is very unfortunate and in my mind shows poor judgement," Tufton said.

The minister expressed regret that the children and parents/guardians had to endure the indiscretion.
