The Agriculture Ministry says the closed season for conch starts on September 1 through to April next year.

As a consequence, fishing of queen conch is strictly prohibited during this period.

The ministry is advising fishers and operators of cold storage facilities, hotels and eating facilities that they must have a signed declaration from the Licensing Authority of the Fisheries Division if they intend to have conch in their possession during this period.

These persons are required to submit declaration applications at least seven days before the start of the closed season.
