PM: Safeguards in place to ensure accountability in Zone of Special Operations
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says safeguards have been put in place to guard against abuses and to ensure accountability by the security forces in the Zone of Special Operations.
Holness this morning declared Mount Salem in St James the first zone.
Hundreds of members of the security forces are now on the ground in Mount Salem.
In declaring the zone this morning, Holness said all weapons and ammunition to be used by the security forces have been registered with the government’s forensic lab.
He further says all members of a zone will wear name tags to make them identifiable.
The Prime Minister also says the security forces were provided with training in human rights and use of force.
He also says the joint command must submit written reports every 10 days to the National Security Council.
Holness says he will be making a statement to the House of Representatives on the zone in another 14 days.
