Shaw wants more scholarship options for students
Finance Minister Audley Shaw says he plans to propose a policy that will encourage self-financing public bodies to create scholarship funds for students.
Shaw says this would be a great addition to the educational plant in Jamaica. He was speaking at a recent ceremony hosted by the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission’s (BGLC), which is offering financial assistance totalling $9.5 million to cover the expenses for some 180 students who will attending tertiary institutions in the new academic year.
It is the largest since the BGLC started its scholarship awards programme in 2013.
Shaw commended the BGLC and encouraged private-sector companies to do the same.
He also urged the students to make maximum use of the opportunity given to them.
