Jose strengthens to a category three hurricane

Jose which is further out in the Atlantic behind Irma, has been upgraded to category three hurricane strength.

The US National Hurricane Center says Jose is expected to pass close to the Leeward Islands, but its exact path is still unclear.

However, it may hit areas already devastated by Irma.

Storm Katia, in the Gulf of Mexico, was also upgraded to hurricane status, and a warning is in effect for the coast of the Mexican state of Veracruz.
