Fire destroys traffic signal at East Queen Street and Hanover Street intersection

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists travelling through downtown Kingston that the traffic signal at the intersection of East Queen Street and Hanover Street is out of commission.

The NWA says the signals were destroyed by a fire set to a pile of garbage.

The blaze was believed to be set by a man of unsound mind.

The NWA's Communication Manager, Stephen Shaw, says the fire destroyed the cables and Cabinet which houses the hardware that operates the lights.

Shaw says the agency intends to relocate the Cabinet from its current location as part of the repair work.

He’s urging pedestrians and motorists to use the intersection with caution.
