Kern Spencer's father attacked, injured by gunmen in Balaclava
The father of former Member of Parliament, Kern Spencer, escaped major injuries last evening after he was attacked by gunmen as he returned home in Balaclava, St Elizabeth.
Seventy-year-old Daniel Spencer sustained injuries to his abdomen after a shot fired by one of three gunmen hit his belt buckle and exploded.
His son Kern says it's a miracle that his father was not killed and is thankful that his injuries are not serious.
According to the former politician, his father was returning home sometime between 8 o'clock and 8:30 last evening when he was pounced upon by the gunmen as he opened the gate to his house.
He said his father, who is a licensed firearm holder, challenged the gunmen who ran into nearby bushes as they fired gunshots.
The elder Spencer was taken to hospital where he received treatment for wounds he received.
Spencer has been released from hospital and is now recuperating.
