Wi-Fi on JUTC buses by mid-year

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has signed a major partnership deal with Growth Tech Limited for the provision of WiFi connectivity on approximately 450 of its buses.

This initiative should take effect by mid-year in the Kingston Metropolitan area.

Growth Tech’s Chief Executive Officer, Neil Lawrence, says the programme will be fully rolled out by December.

The company says it would benefit from products and services presented to commuters in the form of advertisements when they connect to the WiFi.

But Lawrence has refrained from saying how the costs for the roll-out would be split.

JUTC’s managing director, Paul Abrahams says the move is expected to boost ridership on the state-owned buses.

The technology will allow up to 100 devices per bus, to access the 4G service at any one time.

Devices will be remotely managed and will be monitored to block explicit content.
