The Meteorological Service Jamaica is forecasting significant rainfall for the country this weekend as a weakened Hurricane Isaac now a tropical storm, passes south.

Duty forecaster Javoy Sawyers says Isaac is continuing to move westwards as it heads into the Caribbean.

He says although the system will not pass directly over Jamaica, residents should expect heavy showers from Saturday into Monday.

The heaviest showers are expected on Sunday.

Sawyers says increased rainfall advisories will be issued as necessary.

Isaac earlier this week strengthened to a category one storm but later weakened as it approached the Lesser Antilles.
