Holness...former President Bush was kind to us as neighbours

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Jamaica and the Caribbean have lost a friend with the passing of former United States President George H W Bush.

“During his tenure, former President Bush was kind to us as neighbours in the wider region," said Holness, who is in Argentina attending the G20 Summit.

He lauded Bush, the 41st US President, as a man of strength and a believer in the building of democratic institutions.

"Indeed, he also played a pivotal role in global diplomacy,” Holness noted.

“He oversaw the ending of the Cold War which was an extremely significant time in world history, taking the world from the edge of nuclear destruction to an era of relative stability in that regard, and fundamentally changing global dynamics,” he said in a statement.

The Prime Minister described Bush as a true servant of the people and expressed sadness at his passing.
