Green condemns murder of teenage girl
State Minister in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information Floyd Green MP has described the killing of 14-year-old Shanique Clarke as wicked and heartbreaking.
Clarke was fatally shot and three other teenagers injured on Sunday night along Bowens Road, Waltham Park, St Andrew while attending an event.
They were taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
While noting that last year saw a reduction in the amount of children murdered, Green said that the number is still far too high.
“This marks the first murder of a child for this new year and we must ensure that each murder troubles our collective consciousness because the loss of even one child under these circumstances is too much.
"I therefore am appealing to persons who may have witnessed the killing of young Shanique or who has information to come forward and provide the police with information that will assist in their investigation,” he urged.
Green said a team of first responders from the Child Protection and Family Services Agency visited the scene and provided initial grief counselling.
He said a home visit is scheduled for this week to provide further intervention to the family of the deceased.
According to Green, more stringent measures will be enforced this year to promote the rights and ensure the protection of children from all forms of violence.
