Noranda Bauxite's parent company acquires specialty mineral refinery in the UK
Noranda Bauxite's parent company, the Florida-based New Day Aluminium Holdings LLC, has announced the acquisition of a specialty mineral processing plant in Hull, United Kingdom.
A press release from New Day Aluminium said its acquisition of Imerys Fuse Minerals Hull Ltd, the first such acquisition in the United Kingdom, will be used to complement its existing fused alumina business in LaBathie, France.
Imerys Fused Minerals Hull Ltd, which will renamed NICHE Fused Magnesia Limited, operates facilities producing a number of specialty magnesia products used in the electrical, friction, ceramic, automotive and refractory industries.
“We are excited at the opportunity to acquire the Hull business, which is consistent with our strategy to further expand our product portfolio and geographical footprint," David D'Addario, CEO of New Day, said of the acquisition.
"This business is also an excellent fit for the expansion of our newly-branded NICHE specialty products business while providing a growing European platform for New Day,” he added.
New Day’s holdings include Noranda Bauxite, located in St Ann, which mines and ships bauxite for metallurgical and non-metallurgical applications globally, and Noranda Alumina, located in Gramercy, Louisiana, which produces smelter grade alumina for the production of aluminum.
New Day Aluminum LLC acquired in 2016 the bauxite mining and export assets of Noranda Bauxite Ltd, based at Discovery Bay on Jamaica's scenic north coast.
