The cost for work permits is to go up by 15 per cent.

Further, Labour Minister Shahine Robinson says work permit fees will be standardised across all sectors.

"That is the differential fees currently charged by sectors will be eliminated," Robinson explained.

The changes are to take effect on April 1.

The announcements were made today as the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament combed through the budgetary allocations made to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts on April 1.

Robinson said work permit application fees will move from $15,000 to $17,250.

In addition, she said work permit fees will move to $48,875 per quarter "or part thereof."

"This equates to $195,500 per annum," Robinson said.
