Decarboxylation is the process of applying heat to the cannabis flower in order to activate the cannabinoids. This happens naturally when smoking or vaping as tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) is converted to the psychoactive THC. In order to activate the THC for use in byproducts, the marijuana buds are usually baked in an oven for about 40 minutes at about 250°F.
