There was a light drizzle in sections of Portland Eastern this morning as voting got under way in what will be a keenly contested by-election.

Jamaica Labour Party political newcomer Ann-Marie Vaz will be seeking to break the People’s National Party (PNP's) 30-year hold on the seat.

She is up against the PNP's one-time Member of Parliament Damion Crawford. The Electoral Office of Jamaica says some 36,315 electors are eligible to cast their ballots.

Voting began at 7 a.m and will end at 5 p.m.
