Education Ministry dispatches trauma team to Red Hills Primary School following tragic death
The Ministry of Education says it has dispatched a grief and trauma team to support staff and students at Red Hills Primary in St Andrew, following the tragic death of 8-year-old Shantae Skyers.
Skyers’ body was found in bushes in Sterling Castle Heights in Red Hills, St Andrew yesterday.
In a statement today, Minister of State in the Education Ministry Alando Terrelonge expressed shock and sadness at the passing of young Shantae who went missing last Thursday while on her way from school.
Terrelonge said that he is deeply concerned about the manner in which the child’s body was found and added that it is extremely troubling that someone would seek to harm an innocent child as she tried to make her way home.
He said that this incident along with several others should leave all Jamaicans with the resolve to eliminate crime and violence from the country once and for all by telling the police when they see any suspicious activity.
Terrelonge called for residents to continue their partnership with the police to assist in investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has indicated that it will continue its partnership with other government agencies to assist in providing safe transportation especially in rural areas.
