New JUTC turnaround in Above Rocks
SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine:
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has reported that it has identified a plot of land in Above Rocks, St Catherine, where its buses can now turn around to ease dislocation caused by a collapse of a section of the main road recently.
Last week, the breakaway forced the bus company to shorten Route 53 at Parks Road, which is a mile and half from the terminus. Route 53 plies Half-Way Tree, Constant Spring, Stony Hill and Above Rocks. Only operators of cars and other light units are advised to drive past the breakaway.
A team of crewmen from the JUTC’s Service Planning, Accident, and Training departments, as well as the Above Rocks police and stakeholders of the community, collaborated to determine a suitable turnaround point for the buses, said Corporate Communications Manager Cecil Thoms.
The plot of land lies about 200 metres from the terminus at St Mary’s College, which is before the breakaway.
The owner of the property granted permission to the JUTC.
