GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (AP) — Police in the state of Michigan in the United States are appealing to members of the public to return thousands of dollars in cash that fell off the back of a truck and onto the roadway.

According to the police, a total of US$30,000 fell onto the highway on Thursday.

The driver had forgotten that the box with the cash was on the bumper of his truck, police said.

It’s reported that as the cash scattered across the highway other motorists stopped to grab for themselves, causing a huge traffic jam.

Authorities say $2,500 was immediately recovered and returned to the owner.

The police say more of the cash came trickling in today.

The Department of Public Safety says two teenagers turned in $630 while a woman gave up nearly $3,900.
