Traffic changes for section of Barbican Road, St Andrew

The National Works Agency (NWA) is alerting motorists to a traffic change as it relates to the movement of vehicles from Garth Road onto Barbican Road in St Andrew.

Motorists are no longer permitted to turn right from Garth Road onto Barbican Road due to the completion of median barriers along the area.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, explains that those wishing to travel westward towards Grants Pen should preferably continue to the Birdsucker Avenue intersection and make a U-turn there.

He says motorists also have the option of going onto Russell Heights and turning around at a suitable point.

Motorists travelling from the direction of Barbican Square will be able to access Garth Road by making a U-turn at Acadia Drive.

The right-turn restriction is required for improved traffic management along the busy corridor.

Other activities continue to complete works on the extended sections of the Barbican Road MIDP project.

The first phase of asphalting work is to commence mid-week in the widened areas of the project between Garth Road and Acadia Drive.

Traffic will be placed on two new driving lanes to travel eastbound towards Barbican Square by the weekend.

A new sewer disposal system, installed as part of the project was recently commissioned.

The road rehabilitation works should be completed by the end of August, which will add an additional 350 meters of improved roadway to the already reconstructed 1.3-kilometre stretch from West Kings House Road to Garth Road.
