Some commuters affected by taxi strike in St Catherine
The withdrawal of service by taxi operators affected commuters in some sections of St Catherine on Monday morning, but it was business as usual in other areas.
Checks from Kitson Town to Spanish Town saw persons waiting for taxis on either sides of the road and empty vehicles going by tooting horns.
President of the Spanish Town Taxi Association Aaron Mattis told The Gleaner the members of his group fully support the strike.
"We are not pleased with the vagueness of the child seat issue. There needs to be a definitive ruling on this critical issue and to leave it to the police discretion is not enough," Mattis said.
However, while the taxis have withdrawn their service, buses plying the Portmore to Spanish Town were operating, as were others from Linstead and environs.
