Workers at Spectrum Management Authority issue 72-hour strike notice
The union representing workers at the Spectrum Management Authority has issued a 72-hour strike notice to the management of the entity.
The 72-hour period began at 4 p.m. Friday and the notice will expire at 4 p.m. on Monday.
The Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) says workers are restive over a series of dismissals, including that of the head union delegate.
"These dismissals have been executed using the notorious fixed-term contract non-renewal device," UCASE said in a media release on Friday.
It said it would be advising the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the latest developments.
"The union will not stand idly by and allow this rampant abuse of staff to continue under the fixed-term contract arrangement. It has now become a national embarrassment that must be dealt with now," the union said.
