Caribbean Broilers opens new air-chill poultry processing plant in St Catherine

The Caribbean Broilers (CB) Group today inaugurated its new state-of-the-art air-chill processing plant, representing a significant leap in sustainable poultry production.

The plant is located within the group’s 1,000-acre eco-industrial park in Hill Run, St Catherine, known as The Nest.

The group said the plant is the largest of its kind in the Caribbean.

“This air-chill plant concept is an example of circularity in action and not simply about producing more chicken,” explained Group CEO Matthew Lyn during the inauguration event.

“More importantly, it marks a shift from water-based processing to air chilling, a technology that uses cold, purified air to reduce the temperature of the birds after slaughter, rather than the ‘swimming pool’ method still prevalent in other parts of the world,” he added, noting that the process adheres to European standards.

The Nest operates on a zero-waste model, housing five integrated operations: the CB Air Chill plant, Hill Farms for training and research and development, Harvest Hub’s 500-acre crop and orchard farm, a protein recovery plant, and a water treatment facility that recycles 100% of its water for irrigation.

CB Group stated that it remains committed to driving sustainability and food security in Jamaica.
