Chief Executive Officer at the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC), Robert Hill, says an assessment is to be done and a meeting held with vendors following Sunday's fire at the Pearnel Charles Arcade in downtown Kingston.

The fire started some time after 1 p.m., with about four fire units responding to the blaze, which was subsequently contained.

Today's incident follows a fire at the facility in November 2024.

"Unfortunately another fire occurred here at the Pearnel Charles Arcade, just months after one occurred here in late 2024. This is confined to another section of the arcade where some stalls were on fire," Hill said.

He said the KSAMC is awaiting the initial assessment of the Jamaica Fire Brigade.

He said Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby, the KSAMC's commercial services unit and administrative team will also be conducting a walk through and assessment with vendors.

"Again I'd like to reiterate that our insurance coverage does not cover contents but rather the structure and the building, so those things will have to be discussed as well," Hill said.
