Can a woman have too many lipsticks? No. With that in mind, Safyie Reid has added some new shades to her lipstick line Gaelle Cosmetics.

A new line of Jamaican-made cosmetics, Gaelle, which was started in 2017, officially came on the market in June last year, and it has been the rave ever since. The first line boasts 38 shades of matte liquid non-toxic lipsticks, that are paraben- and cruelty-free and long-lasting.

Now, Reid has added 12 new colours to her BADASS line. This line is for the daring and the bold, or for the usually demure to show off their sassy side.

"The first collection was for the working and mostly conservative women. The BADASS collection is for those who are bold and don't give a damn," Reid told Outlook.

SHADES

The names of each shade also live up to the thought behind the line. The sexy maroon - Goodaz; the bold blue - Bad Gyal; mauve-like shade for Stooch; and the aqua-like shade for Rebel, are just a few the options to choose from.

The second of six children, Reid did not always plan to be in the cosmetics industry. She studied hospitality and tourism management at the University of Technology, but has worked in the spa and beauty industry for most of her career. Eventually, she found herself wanting to dabble in skincare and to appeal to the fellow Jamaican women, she choose to go into make-up.

Gaelle Cosmetics is quickly becoming a household name, and Reid has no plans for stopping at lipsticks. She plans on adding other make-up items to her collection, hopefully by the end of the year.

Reid has developed a fondness for a few shades, including Boss Lady, from her first collection; and for this new line, she is caught between Sycamore Tree and Sketel as her personal favourites.

Taking a leap of faith is great, but if she could give one piece of advice to young people, it would be to pursue education. "It cannot be said too many times - get an education. It was mine and a lot of others' saving grace. I grew up not having. Without an education, my current situation would be far worse. Set goals and see them through, and be self-motivated."

Gaelle Cosmetics are available at Fontana Pharmacy and online at www.gaellecosmetics.com.
