Just a day shy of Father’s Day, B3 Parenting on Saturday, June 15 will present the 2019 staging of #OurSons – an interactive session for boys and young men at Ballaz Liberty Park. It is designed to connect young boys with strong mentors with the goal to inspire positive change.

This year, attendees will be encouraged to ‘Believe the Ball’ by Andre Virtue, motivational football coach and director at Ballaz International, and transformational and leadership trainer Sean Williams.

“This year, the event is sport-centred as it is our hope that this will increase the level of influence on our boys and young men. There is an overwhelming need for special attention to be given to our boys to guide, direct, and motivate them. This is one of the steps in safeguarding their futures, in a sense. I believe the selection of our speakers and mentor coaches will achieve that,” explained Michelle Gordon, event curator.

Wealth of experience

With a wealth of experience totalling almost 20 years between them, both men have substantial knowledge of dealing with and shaping the psyche of young men. A proud father to his own two sons, Andre Virtue has been a father figure to many others, including the boys and girls who have participated in Ballaz Football development programmes.

“I live by the philosophy that we aren’t just coaching a sport, but coaching a life through sport, and with that front of mind I have always sought to instill and maintain positive values and attitudes in all the youngsters I come across. For #OurSons 2019, the boys and parents alike can look forward to a very fun, very enlightening, and hopefully very lasting mentorship sessions,” explained Virtue.

A trained facilitator, Sean Williams is dedicated to developing strong teams and building leaders. Also a father of two, Williams says, “The impact and power of sports give us a tremendous opportunity to connect with our youth and bring hope and transformation to their lives. This is why I am so excited about #OurSons2019. I believe the experience here will have a lasting effect on our boys.”

Sponsored by Sagicor, The Office of the Children’s Advocate, Creative Media and Events, Phase 3, Ballaz Academy, KFC Jamaica and Aldor Candies, the event is free for the boys with online registration.
