Opera thrills at Tryall Club
WESTERN BUREAU:
Elaine Thompson's 200 metres gold medal win was the adrenaline that took Montegonians into a night of opera with the indomitable Sir Willard White and his spirited wife, Lady Sylvia, at Hanover Grange, Tryall Club on Wednesday night.
For the second time in seven days, Theresa and Andrew Roberts opened the doors to their home hosting another international act, all in the name of charity and the celebration of her birthday.
Roberts, whose birthday is September 1, is hosting a month-long celebration, using the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of struggling university students who are beneficiaries of the MoBay City Run Scholarship.
Last week, it was ballet. On Wednesday, the bass-baritone voice of Sir Willard could be heard in the ceilings of the fabulous mansion built to celebrate the arts. Accompanied by his wife, Lady Sylvia, the two created magic in the Hanover resident, leaving their mark in the minds of the intimate group that opted to watch the Olympics Game at the opera.
DIVINE EVENING
It was an evening tagged Divine, and it had all the ingredients to live up to its name.
From sponsors Mystic Thai's chicken tom yum and Thai spring rolls to Rosh Marketing's sparkling Argentinian wines - Sarah Bonarda and Chenin-Ugni Blanc - it was obvious that those who combined opera and sports were in for a treat.
Sir Willard and his stunning and talented wife were a class act, and this was evident in every note they commanded.
Roberts will close the curtains on her birthday celebration with the by-invitation-only party with her favourite Jamaican artiste - the doctor himself, Beenie Man, later this month.
