*International Hockey (FIH) World League/ Ja's men seek second win

Jamaica's men's team will be seeking their second win in the Federation of International Hockey (FIH) World League round one qualifying series when they face the Dominican Republic at the Mona Hockey field today at 7 p.m.

Team Jamaica's men enter the game as group leaders following their 2-1 victory over Barbados earlier this week.

Coach Nicholas Brown and his team have, however, been hit by the chikungunya virus but are hopeful of doing well against the Dominican Republic following yesterday's break.

"We have two players recovering from chik-V following our first game. Three are fighting to overcome it. But we are upbeat and hopeful that we will do well. We will take each game one day at a time play hard and hope to win," Brown underlined.

He added: "The Dominican Republic are a strong team and in terms of mindset and focus my guys are ready to play well against them," he stressed.

The Dominica Republic lost out on penalties to Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday after the teams were locked at 2-2 at full-time.

Looking ahead Brown said they also hope to get past Trinidad and Tobago in their final match tomorrow.

"We created an upset by beating number two ranked Barbados. On Sunday, we also need to get three points and hopefully beat top ranked Caribbean team Trinidad and Tobago. My team is capable of creating an upset again on Sunday; we just want a break from the chikungunya virus," Brown told The Gleaner.

Meanwhile, Jamaica's women's team fell to their second successive defeat on Thursday going down 2-0 to Barbados.

Blair Wynne and Patricia Wright-Alexis were the scorers for Barbados.

In another women's match Barbados sealed a 2-0 win over the Dominican Republic with goals from Cecilia Ofla and Agustino Birocho.

Jamaica's women will return to action today against Puerto Rico at 4:30 p.m. after Barbados women face Trinidad and Tobago in the day's curtain raiser at 8:00 a.m.
