FOOTBALL: Young Reggae Boyz to bow into action at CAC Games today

Jamaica’s Under-20 Reggae Boyz will begin their campaign at the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico today when the football competition begins.

Jamaica, drawn in Group A, will begin against El Salvador in a match scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Jamaica time.

The two other teams in the group – hosts Mexico and Honduras – will face off at 8 p.m. Jamaica time.

The Reggae Boyz will also play Honduras on Thursday and then meet host nation Mexico on Saturday in their final group game.

Jamaica will also be represented in hockey and taekwondo on today’s fourth day at the games.

In hockey,  Jamaica will take on Barbados in a Pool A women’s fixture; while in taekwondo Jason Grant will face Kristopher Maitland of Costa Rica in a men’s over 87-kilogram quarter-final match.

Meanwhile, Jamaica secured its first medal at the game through Craig Brown who won silver in taekwonda in the men’s under 87 kilos category.

Brown was beaten 18-2 by Cuban Rafael Alba in the gold medal match.

On his way to the gold medal match, the Jamaican defeated Stuart Smit of Aruba 8-4 and Mexican Misael Lopez 18-12
