The Driftwood Gun Club and the Jamaica Skeet Club will present a unique, fun-filled, exciting and edge-of-the-seat styled, 100 Target Sporting Clays Shoot at their 2015 season opener today, at the Portmore Gun Range in St Catherine.

Today's event is described as an inter-club competition, and the registration process will start at 8:45 and end at 10 a.m. The shotgun event will follow at 10:30 a.m.

Entry fee for men is $1,000.

Today's contest will feature a four-man team event, with all clubs official and unofficial, welcomed to participate.

Khaleel Azan, president of the Jamaica Skeet Club, told The Sunday Gleaner that the main event will take on a 100-target sporting clays format where 13 stations will be set for the usual class prizes.

FORMULA FOR FUN

"Driftwood has the formula to create fun events, so come and be a part of it today. They've hosted three very successful five-stand nights at the club on a trial basis," he said, while adding that today's event will become a part of the skeet club's annual shooting calendar.

Participants will be awarded in various categories - champion, runner-up, first to third in sections A, B, C, D and E categories, while in the hunters class, ladies section, juniors, and sub juniors competition prizes will also go to the top finishers.

Participants will also qualify for gate prizes from event sponsors including Neveast Office Supplies, Medusa and Countryside Club.

"We encourage shooters to enter five-man teams from gun clubs or otherwise, as the best four scores will be used to tabulate their total team score," Azan noted.

He explained that there will be a gross team prize and a net team prize using the class handicap system for team members, who do not have to shoot in the same squad.

Today will also see a man versus man steel challenge, which will commence after the main competition at 3 p.m. There will also be food and refreshments on sale as well as entertainment provided by DJ Omar C.
