Trinidad and Tobago’s Imran Khan (left) celebrates with teammates after claiming a wicket on the third day of the seventh-round match between Jamaica Franchise and Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in the WICB Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament at Sabina Park yesterday.

Struggling Jamaica Franchise slumped to their third defeat in as many matches in the four-day West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League (PCL), following a 179-run loss to Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at Sabina Park yesterday.

Set 357 for victory after the Trinidadians were dismissed for 246 in their second innings earlier in the day, Jamaica could only muster 177 and were bowled out shortly after tea on the third day.

The Trinidadians, who entered the seventh-round contest in fifth position, had earlier posted 277, while Jamaica, who started in fourth, were dismissed for 167 in their first innings.

In the second innings, the Jamaicans lost their last five wickets for six runs, with four of the batsmen failing to score.

The tournament is being contested over 10 rounds.

"Trinidad really outplayed us over the three days," bemoaned Jamaica captain Tamar Lambert.

"They batted, bowled and fielded well in both innings, unlike us, and credit must be given to them.

"We now have to pick ourselves up and try to get things right for our next match."

Resuming the day on 184 for four and with a comfortable lead of 294, Trinidad were pegged back somewhat on the back of some inspired bowling from all-rounder David Bernard Jr.

Getting the ball to swing both ways, Bernard Jr finished with three for 49, with leg-spinner Odean Brown providing support with three for 37.

Stylish batsman Kjorn Ottley, who was 87 not out overnight, went on to score 99.

Jamaica, despite a second-wicket stand of 77 between John Campbell and Jermaine Blackwood, could not cope with the bounce and turn of all-rounder Imran Khan.

The leg-spinner ended with six for 24 for a match haul of eight for 95. He was named Man-of-the-Match.

The 21-year-old Campbell made a top score of 83, with two sixes and 12 fours, while Blackwood scored 52.

"I must say well done to the batters in both innings; they put their hands up," highlighted Trinidad's captain, Rayad Emrit.

"It was tough on Ottley, him not getting a hundred, but that is what we wanted from the batsmen, to stay out there.

"We knew in the second innings it was not going to be a walkover as in the first, and they came out guns blazing," Emrit reasoned. "But we knew that once we got Campbell or Blackwood, we would be good."
