Sam Allen (TVJ) and Cliff Williams (Power 106) have won the bi-monthly prizes in the Gleaner/CTL Tipsters' competition embracing May and June.

Allen spotted 49 winners after resisting strong challenges from Track & Pools (Kirk Kong) and defending champion The Gleaner (Orville Clarke) over the last three race days to be four clear at the end, thanks to a fabulous five-timer on Saturday, June 27, which included 10-1 chance WESTERN ROSE and BLACK THATCH at 4-1. Allen received $20,000 for his efforts.

Williams, on the other hand, topped the wagering section with a plus $519.20 - the only tipster to finish in the black. The veteran broadcaster stole a march on the field on May 6 when napping the 16-1 outsider SUPERLUMINAL in the opening race that day to establish a plus $4,000 lead over rivals. Although his account gradually dwindled in May and June, Williams had enough to win a grand total of $60,000 - $20,000 for the May/June period and another $40,000 carried over from the two previous bi-monthly periods.

Kong leads the overall standing (win) after the July 4 St Leger meeting with 132 wins, two ahead of Allen.

Meanwhile St Leger winner SUPERLUMINAL has been sold to Trinidadian owners for an undisclosed sum.

The bay colt by Natural Selection out of Thousand Hills, bred by the Y.S. (1955) Limited, had scored a 35-1 upset in the season's final classic for owners P.J.K.
