SWIMMING: Alia Atkinson takes bronze in 100m at World Championships
KAZAN, Russia (AP) :
Jamaica's Alia Atkinson placed third today in the 100-meter backstroke event at the world swimming championships in Russia.
Atkinson of Jamaica finished in 1:06.42 seconds.
Yulia Efimova, who gave the host country, Russia, its first gold of these championships in the 100 backstroke, won in 1:05.66 to beat Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania in a reversal of their results two years ago, when Efimova finished second.
Meilutyte clocked 1:06.36.
