Walsh to manage Under-15 WI squad
ST JOHN'S, Antigua, CMC - Former West Indies and Jamaica captain Courtney Walsh will manage the 14-member West Indies Under-15 squad which will tour England later the month.
The coach will be Robert Samuels who is also a former Jamaica and West Indies player. The team management unit is completed by Floyd Reifer (assistant coach) and Beverly Nelson (Physiotherapist).
The tour, which runs from August 21-31, has been organised following an invitation from the England Barmy Army Colts.
"The tour has the potential to become an annual event depending on its success this year," said manager, Cricket Operations of the WICB Roland Holder.
"This will provide our younger players with the opportunity to showcase their skills against their peers from another country. It will serve as a great tool for talent identification and development for our 15-year-old players," Holder added.
The tour includes a series of limited-overs matches comprising 50 overs-a-side, 45 overs-a-side and Twenty20 including an opportunity to play at the spiritual home of the game, Lord's, against the Chris Gayle Academy on Monday, August 24.
"There is a lot of excitement about the emerging West Indies talent that will be on display and this has added something extra to the normal fixture schedule," said Mark Stear, the director of the England Barmy Army Colts.
"We hope that this is the start of an annual invitation to the West Indies Under-15s."
The captain of the WICB Under-15 Invitational squad will be named at a later date.
