General secretary of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) Garth Gayle was yesterday elected to the Council of the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Athletics Association, as Puerto Rican Victor Lopez was returned unopposed as president of the organisation.

Gayle, who lost a close presidential election to Lopez for leadership of the region's governing body ahead of the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, decided against running for the top spot this time around but received the most votes as he was ushered onto the Council.

Lopez, who himself replaced another Jamaican, Neville 'Teddy' McCook following his death, has been given the green light for his first full term in charge of the organisation, Bahamian Mike Sands takes over as the new vice-president after beating Barbados' Noel Lynch 19 - 9, while Haitian Alain Jean-Pierre retains his post as Treasurer.
