NETBALL: Sunshine Girls beaten by New Zealand

Jamaica's Sunshine Girls went down 48-55 to the world number two New Zealand Silver Ferns in their Pool E encounter at the Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia Tuesday. 

The Sunshine Girls played an excellent second quarter as they outscored the Silver Ferns 16-10, for a 27-24 lead at half time. 

Jamaicans matched their opponents for most of the third quarter before wilting under stifling mid-court defence pressure from New Zealand.

The Silver Ferns led 40-37 at the end of the third period.  

Romelda Aiken topscored for the Sunshine Girls with 41 goals from 44 attempts.

She got support from Shanice Beckford, who shot seven goals from nine attempts. 

Maria Tutaia with 36 goals from 43 tries and Bailey Mes with 19 goals from 25 attempts, were the scorers for New Zealand. 

Jamaica will next play Uganda on Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, Australia defeated England 51 to 41 in the Pool F top-tier fixture.
