Mico University College took home several awards from 2016 Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association (Intercol) awards ceremony held last Thursday at the Enos Nutall Lecture Theatre on the Mico University College campus.

Mico came out on top after winning nine trophies for the year, for the best showing ever by the institution in its 180-year history.

Sharing the spotlight was World Indoor 60 metres hurdles champion Omar McLeod and discus thrower Tara-Sue Barnett, who were named Male and Female Athletes of the Year, respectively. McLeod was rewarded for his performances in both the 60 metres and 110 metres hurdles at the University of Arkansas, and Barnett for her performances at Grand Canyon University.

In netball, Mico won all five trophies up for grabs. The senior and junior teams topped the opening rally, while the junior, intermediate and senior teams were winners in the Open League competitions. The Mico men's and women's football teams also topped their leagues, while the Cross Roads-based institution won titles in the Rugby 13s League and Division Two basketball.

G.C. Foster College took five titles overall. They won the double in track and field and also lifted the women's basketball title, men's Division One football, and Rugby 9s League.

University of Technology were next with four titles, with success coming in the men's Division One basketball, men's and women's table tennis, and men's volleyball.
