Senior athletes show good form at Link Up

SEVERAL of the country's top senior athletes displayed good form at the first Link Up meet at the G.C. Foster College yesterday.

Olympic Games 400 metres bronze medallist Shericka Jackson topped a strong field in the 100 metres.

Running against a minus 2.5 metres per second wind, the MVP Track Club athlete stopped the clock at 11.67 seconds for the fastest time on the day in the event for female athletes. G.C. Foster College's Sashalee Forbes (11.72) was second while MVP's Stephenie McPherson won her heat in 11.78 (minus 2.6 mps).

University of Technology (UTech) athletes were first and second in the men's 100m. In a very close finish, Tyquendo Tracey clipped Chad Walker. Both were awarded the same time, 10.71. They ran in a negative 2.8 metres per second wind.

Mico University College's Dawnalee Loney topped the 200 metres with a 23.89 run while Jody Muir of MVP clocked 53.38 to return the fastest time in the women's 400m.

DWYER BEST AMONG MALES

Rasheed Dwyer, representing Sprintec, was best among the males in the 400 metres winning in 46.44.

G.C. Foster's College's Colin King captured the men's 200m in 21.04 while the 400m hurdles went to his teammate, Marzel Miller, in 51.13 seconds.

In other events, Ricardo Cunningham of Visions won the 800m in 1:51.51 while Rohan Cole of UTech took the men's 110m hurdles in 14.45 seconds (minus 2.7 mps wind).

In field events, Isheka Binns of the University of the West Indies was a double winner. She first captured the discus with a distance of 55.90m then returned to take the javelin throw with 41.21m.

Olympian Fedrick Dacres captured the men's shot put with a heave of 19.81m. Alec Verne Longmore of UTech (16.70m) and UWI's Christopher Brown (16.27m) were second and third, respectively.
