Knibb breaks national discus record

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania

Jamaica's Kellion Knibb broke her own national discus record at the Penn relays yesterday.

Knibb who attends Florida State University, had a best throw of 62.07 metres to improve on the previous mark of 61.59 metres. Isheeka Binns of the University of the West Indies (UWI) took second with 56.05m while her teammate Venique Harris was third with 55.87m.

Carlington Moulton of the UWI also posted a good win in the college men's high jump when he cleared 2.12 metres.

In college relay events G.C. Foster, Mico and the University of Technology (UTech) have advanced to finals of their events scheduled for today's final day.

G.C. Foster clocked 1:21.91 to be the fastest qualifiers in the men's 4x200m event. They are also in the 4x100m final after winning their heat in 38.73 seconds.

UTech also advanced to the final after winning their heat in 39.83.

Mico will contest the 4x 400m final. They won their heat in 3:08.06 to be the fourth fastest qualifiers while UTech also advanced as the sixth fastest with 3:08.62. Auburn with Akeem Bloomfield and Nathan Allen are the fastest qualifiers with 3:07.13.

Mico finished fourth in the college women's sprint medley final in 3:48.79. University of Oregon won in 3:39.05.
