RJR Gleaner/JN Bank/St Andrew Care Centre Charity Golf set for June 11

This year's RJR GLEANER/JN Bank/St Andrew Care Centre Family Fun Day and Charity Golf Tournament will again raise funds to help to transform the lives of at-risk boys in the 10-18 age group.

The tournament, launched yesterday at the St Andrew Parish Church's Fellowship Court, is set for June 11 at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club. All proceeds will go to the St Andrew Care Centre.

Milverton Reynolds, St Andrew Care Centre chairman, said this year marks the 16th anniversary of the centre and they will continue to contribute to the many needs of the young people they serve.

"The chief mission of the care centre is the rehabilitation of these street boys. I am really pleased to say that between 2001 and 2016, we have assisted some 779 boys," Reynolds revealed at yesterday's press briefing.

Reynolds noted that the programme offers services which are free of cost to the boys, among other things "receive two cooked meals in addition to remedial education".

Services offered include remedial education subjects - language arts, spelling, reading, mathematics, backyard gardening, music and drama and life skills.

DELIGHTED TO BE INVOLVED

Meanwhile, Gary Allen, chief executive officer of the RJR Gleaner Communications Group, said his organisation is delighted to be involved with the event.

"We are very proud of the work that is being done by the St Andrew Care Centre, and because of that, we are committed to this event, and as long as you are doing it, you can count on the RJR Group to stand side by side with you," Allen said.

He underlined that his organisation is hoping to bring expanded ways for the tournament to include more attraction and reach.

Jamaica National's business relationship and sales manager, Jacqueline Robotham, also spoke at yesterday's launch. She said her organisation was also happy to be on board as a sponsor of the worthy cause.
