Vaz lead the way
Former champions Vaz Preparatory are the early leaders going into today's second of competition at the three-day Tastee National Preparatory Schools Track and Field Championships at the National Stadium.
After two finals, Vaz lead the standings with 23 points ahead of defending champions Hydel on 13. They are followed by Stella Morris (11), Mona (eight), Sts Peter and Paul (seven), Belair (six), Quest (five) and Our Lady of the Angels (one).
Vaz's Jaydon Hibbert was the star on day one after he won the gold in the boys' Class One high jump competition.
Hibbert cleared 1.53m to win the event ahead of Hydel's Meshach Waugh, who also registered of a mark of 1.53m.
However, Hibbert won the event after he cleared the mark on his first attempt while Waugh achieved the mark on his second. Zico Bennett, also of Hydel, was third with a leap of 1.50.
Edwards Sterling of Vaz won the boys' Class Two high jump with leap of 1.43m ahead of Maquis Steele of Stella Morris, who are also cleared 1.43m.
Sterling was declared the winner after he cleared the height with his first attempt while Steele achieved his mark on his second attempt. Belair's Timos Blake, 1.30m, was third.
Meanwhile, four finals will be contested on today's second day. They are the boys' and girls' Class One long jump, the girls' Class One high jump and the Class Two high jump for girls.
