JCA to elect new president today

All is set for today’s Jamaica Cricket Association’s Annual General Meeting and elections, with incumbent Wilford ‘Billy’ Heaven going up against challenger Mark Neita for the post of president.

Heaven, who is seeking a third successive term at the helm of the JCA, has faced criticism from Neita, the president of Melbourne Cricket Club, who argues that the affairs of the association would be better served with a more hands- on leadership. The incumbent has, however, hit back, describing Neita’s ideas as ‘outdated’ while defending his leadership style of the organisation.

The AGM will take place at the Medallion Hall Hotel and is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. On the agenda is an update of the association’s activities and presentation of its audited financial statements.

The actual voting for officers will commence afterwards.

Heaven, the CHASE Fund chief executive officer, turned back the challenge of Fritz Harris, 52 to 47, during the association’s AGM in 2016. He first claimed the post in November 2013 after defeating Milton Henry 71-25.

Neita, a former national representative, has also pushed for what he describes as greater developmental focus and resources for clubs and parishes.
